To celebrate the 10th anniversary of one of Naija best albums to be released, ‘The Invasion” by P-square, we highlighted the top memorable songs the album entertained us with.

P-square consisting of twins, Peter and Paul Okoye were the bad boys of the industry with their love-themed songs and party anthems.

For almost ten years these two had not just Nigerians but Africans also dancing and crying to their songs. While “Last Nite(2003)” is their first album, “Get Squared(2005)” was where their major breakthrough came from.

They followed through with the groundbreaking albums “Game Over(2007),” and “Danger(2009). “The Invasion” which was released in 2011 was a different dimension that shot the group to greater heights.

Just like its name, the album invaded airwaves and appealed to different demographics and different events. While Some songs catered to weddings, others catered to clubs

With features from Tiwa Savage, Naeto C, Waje, May D, Eva Alordiah, Muna, Akon and Rick Ross, The Invasion album is a well-rounded, diverse album with R&B, reggae, hip hop, Europop, and contemporary highlife influences.

    Here are memorable songs from the Invasion album;

    Chop My Money

This wasn’t just a song, it was an anthem that got played everywhere; streets, clubs, parties e.t.c. This song birthed slang and introduced May D who was a newcomer to the spotlight.

Chop My Money was a success thanks to its groovy beat and catchy lyrics which sees a man telling his love interest to ‘chop his money.’

It is the song that helped solidify the success of the album. The remix which featured Akon was also a hit on its own.

    Quotable Lyrics

She must chop my money, chop my money
Chop my money, ’cause I don’t care

    Beautiful Onyinye

This beautiful R’n’B song had fans falling in love with P-square all over again. While the remix which features Rick Ross in recent times has overshadowed the original, the two versions still carry the same power to melt one’s heart.

The song became a favourite wedding anthem at the time of its release and has gone to become one of P-square’s best and emotional songs.

    Quotable Lyrics

“Mommy meh eh eh eh eh
Nne meh yeah see the girl I wan marry

    Forever

Forever is another Afro R’n’B song on the album. The song might not have been as critically successful as “Beautiful Onyinye,” the lyrics were still a delight to listen to.

    Quotable Lyrics

“if you were my girl I’ll take you round the world
I’ll take you places where you’ve never ever been before
so give me your hand I’m giving you my world
I promise I’ll be loving you forever and ever”

    Asamkpokoto

While the meaning of Asamkpokoto is uncertain, the message is understood. The music duo sing about a girl who they feel is using them but yet can’t help loving her.

    Quotable Lyrics

You dey make me want to go Jogodo
    Fly away and go sokoto
    Call your name Asamkpokoto

Do As I Do ft Tiwa Savage, May D

Another May D feature on the list, “Do as I Do” hits the nail on the head with its features. The song features Tiwa Savage who was just becoming a star at that time and she proved to be the right choice.

    Quotable Quote

As a party starter (party starter)

    Player

Invasion album saw P-square experiment with a lot of genres including Europop and this is evidenced on “Player“.

Like most of their songs, P-square proved that no genre is too hard to conquer on “Player.” The song is a tale of a repentant player who is trying to stay committed despite temptation thrown his way.

    Quotable Lyrics

“Brother carry her dey go (carry her go)
Or she go follow me oh (follow me o) eh
Causez I‘m a mother fucking player

Causez I‘m a mother fucking player”
