Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe also known as Laycon, is a Nigerian rapper, singer and songwriter, a graduate of philosophy from the University of Lagos, born on 8 November 1993, who rose to prominence after emerging the winner of Big Brother Naija season 5, a reality TV show.

Here we’ll look at the general overview of his artistry, journey to stardom, pre-show, BBnaija and the stereotype.

Before the show, Laycon has been on the verge of becoming the best in his music career, he was determined to remain relevant over changing times, as it was so obvious in his artistic ability to absorb and release the right energy towards the expectation.

In 2016, Laycon came up with his first EP titled ‘Young Black and Gifted‘ the project showed a young man with total diligence and hungry for success, approximately 5 good years ago.

3 years later he released a 6 tracks compilation titled ‘Any Given Monday (The Playlist)’, in the same year he then dropped his popular single ‘Fierce‘ with an assist from a household name ‘Reminisce and Chinko Ekun‘.

Given the expectation that people have about every BBNaija contestant with musical talents on their inability to find their roots in the music industry, In Laycon‘s case, this stereotype could have been accurate if he had never ventured into anything music-related prior to the reality show.

All of his releases happened before the show, one of the major reason that should overwrite this stereotype.

In 2020, Laycon released an 8 track EP titled ‘Who is Laycon‘ that features his 2019 single ‘Fierce‘ featuring two indigenous rappers (Reminisce and Chinko Ekun), the single gained massive airplay across the nation.

He was introduced to a larger audience from the show, who then discovered his talent in music and showered him with support (vote), even at the BBnaija show, DJ Neptune offered him to be on the Remix of his 2020 hit song titled ‘Nobody‘ alongside Joeboy and Mr Eazi, which was recorded after the show, and yes! as usual, he delivered so effortlessly.

The best gift he had from the show was not the 85 million naira prize, yes! But the emergence of his large fanbase called the ‘Icons‘, one of the major advantages in the music industry as an artiste, especially in this streaming era, which has translated to huge numbers on youtube and other streaming platforms.

After the show, Laycon served a visual to his Deshinor assisted second single off his EP ‘Who is Laycon‘ he also graced the mic as a guest act on popular Jimmy Jatt show tagged ‘Jimmy Jumps Off‘ a typical live rap show.

In conclusion, Laycon is a promising talent to look out for in 2021 as a new kid in the block, reassuring the safety of Nigeria rap culture. WATCH OUT FOR LAYCON!!!
