He debuted on the scene with his single titled ‘Eleko’ in 2016, under the DMW label (Davido music worldwide) the song went viral and debuted at number 9 on the Nigeria Playdata charts, on 1 May 2016, and reached number 5, on 28 May 2016.

Mayorkun ability to stay neutral and calm amidst several controversies in the Nigerian music industry should be studied, he was prolly loved by everyone including the rival fanbases.

However, most top musicians have consigned him including Wizkid, he stayed focused on his craft and pay no mind to irrelevant things that don’t relate to his career with respect to everyone ahead of him in the industry.

    DMW Record Label Era

Mayorkun was the top artistes in DMW, fondly recognised as the heir to the throne or Davido’s right hand best man, and involved and participated in co-writing most record label hit songs.

Mayorkun has the record of the most humble musicians out of Nigeria, as he manages to stay afloat without any beef with anyone on the label and outside the label.

He was officially signed to the DMW record label in 2016 alongside Dremo, and exited the label after paying his full dues in 2021 to Sony music and independent artiste.

    DMW Record Label Exit

Mayorkun left the label in 2021, after 5years contract with Davido’s highly rated record label DMW, he’s one of the few that left a label in Nigeria without dispute or contract breaching.

In 2021, he left the label and was signed to Sony Music Africa, he drop a couple of projects that did commercially great in DMW including his debut album titled the Mayor of Lagos and an EP.

    Musical Career Milestone

Mayorkun have been involved in so many music career achievement and successes, his debut single became one of the fastest videos to reach a million views on Youtube and was featured on so many hit songs in Nigerian music.

Mayorkun was regarded as the king of features around 2018, because of how he kills collaborations, it always becomes his song whenever he jumped on any song, he has the ability to finesse and beautify a song.

Mayorkun also is one of the few Nigerian artistes that had one or more hit songs each year from his debut to date.

He literally paid his dues and solidify his name as one of the great artistes of this decade.

in 2018, Mayorkun dubbed the “Mayor of Lagos,” is said to have sold out his debut London show at the Indigo 02, according to reports. Mayorkun, the “Up to Something” singer, headlined and sold out his debut London gig.

The event, dubbed “The Mayor of London,” took place at the Indigo 02 in London, which has a capacity of 2,750 people, few artistes have done that on his level.

There is no other way to put it that his humility and talent fueled his music career to the height he is right now.
