Manchester City boss has revealed he’s pondering some “ridiculous ideas” ahead of his side’s derby clash with Manchester United.

City is presently preparing for their League Cup trip to Southampton on Wednesday, but they also have rivalry match versus United this weekend in mind.

Guardiola has been obliged to consider springing selection surprise at Old Trafford in order to keep his players fresh given the close succession of games.

The City manager has acknowledged that he hasn’t yet reviewed United’s most recent matches to develop concrete game plan, though.

“I have few ideas, thoughts – ridiculous ones against United – but still I didn’t watch their last games,” Guardiola told reporters.

“I have to see the way they play at home and if they change something. I still have to review it; that is why I don’t have clear lineup [yet] against United.”

Guardiola has been known to tinker with his line-ups and formations in marquee clashes.

In January 2020, City got the better of United without striker as he deployed two false nines in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie. However, his move to play without holding midfielder against Chelsea in the 2020-21 final backfired as his team lost 1-0.

The current champions will play Manchester United on Saturday at Old Trafford before matchup with Tottenham on Tuesday.
