President Emmanuel Macron wants the French Football Federation (FFF), also called the French FA, to hand new contract to manager Didier Deschamps as reward for reaching successive finals.

In the 2022 semifinals, France defeated 2-0 after spirited contest, setting up titanic matchup with Argentina in the national title game. Macron, the president of France, was there at the Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday and was overjoyed when Les Bleus triumphed.

After the victory, the French president lauded manager Didier Deschamps and pushed the FFP to extend his contract, which is set to expire at the conclusion of the competition.

As the head coach of the French national team, Deschamps has had a fantastic run. Ahead of Portugal in the 2016 final, he led his team there.

He won both the and the World Cup two years later in Russia. He would become the first men’s team coach to win back-to-back titles since Vittorio Pozzo of Italy (1934 & 1938) if he is in raising the trophy.

Les Bleus will now face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the title decider on Sunday at the Lusail Stadium.
