The best and biggest songs Afrobeat has seen aren’t necessarily the ones we featured foreign artistes. They are the ones that are purely Afrobeat or that was made by 2 or more Afrobeat artistes.

Take a look at some albums from 2020 for example.

Tiwa had Sam Smith on the album, the song wasn’t the biggest or even a fan favorite, It was Koroba [pure Afrobeats]

Look at Made In Lagos featuring Multiple Grammy-winning artists, Yet, the biggest songs on the album were made by purely Afrobeat artistes Wizkid, Tems, Burna Boy. [Ginger and Essence]. How does this help the so-called “Afrobeat movement”? Yes, it plays a major role considering how appealing they find the genre.

 

A Better Time by Davido also had a star lineup, Yet, the biggest songs are Solos [Fem, Jowo] and a Mayorkun [an Afrobeat artiste] feature.

Carpe Diem by Olamide didn’t have star-studded features [so, automatically it was made purely by Afrobeats artistes, no foreign acts]…But the biggest songs were still a brilliant product of Afrobeats artistes coming together.

Olamide, Bad Boy Timz, Omah Lay, and . [This is even more amazing if you consider that they are just up and coming artistes].

Throwback to African Giant by Burna Boy, it had Future and Damian Marley on it
Yet, a collaborative effort from Burna and Zlatan was the number one song in the continent that year [Zlatan didn’t even have an album to his name then] mad thing.

How did it come about? A brilliant collaboration between afrobeats artistes [many of which includes up&coming stars]

Tiwa was the only top act on it back then [aside from the respected ] others were young acts.

Aside from the fact that you’re bringing two audiences together, you’re most times fusing two subgenres of Afrobeats.

Neither of Burna and Wizkid would sing Ginger alone and it would be this big [The can knack their head on anything and disagree, it’s just the plain truth].

Do you know how big a Burna X Wizkid EP would be? Nothing would touch it if it comes out, nothing.

We’ve missed out on collaborations from the previous wave of Afrobeats giants [P-Square, 2Baba, D’banj, 9ice, Wande Coal], Obviously, We didn’t get enough collaborations between these guys,
